Who's Pauli and what's up with his kitchen?



First of all, this Pauli's Kitchen should not be confused with “Paulis Kitchen” (though I do see how that could be possible, but details matter and one has an apostrophe while the other does not…), the makers of “Küchenutensilien mit Qualität und Design”. On Instagram, you won’t find me as@pauliskitchen, @paulis.kitchen, or @paulis_kitchen. Unfortunately all the other Paulis of the world went Insta before me and I'm stuck with @chef.pauli.

The name - Pauli's Kitchen - can only be blamed on the lead singer of Swallow the Sun. During their visit in Dubai, in a dark room, while waiting for the StS show to start, through the haze of smoke, someone thought there was a resemblance between Pauli Aalto-Setälä and I. The nickname "Pauli" stuck (for a very limited population), and from there the kitchen followed.

For the most part, my kitchen is my backyard, and my food is prepared through the tender caress of fire and smoke in my Weber Master Touch or it's big brother, the Weber Smokey Mountain. Much of what you'll see here is gleamed from other sources on the intertubes (sources of recipes will be cited and linked to where applicable), and any deviations from the original recipes will be included.

If you wish to explore specific foods, three of four elements will guide you to the correct part of the site, while the fourth - fire - is what turns the other three into what this site is all about - food grilled or barbecued to perfection.

  • Earth - for beasts that roam the lands
  • Air - for avian creatures (even if their flight is as graceful as a chicken's)
  • Water - for all things that dwell below the surface
